Every Fluid Your Aston Martin Needs

Fluids are the life blood of every car, and Aston Martins are no different.  As you might expect Aston Martin designed the Gaydon era cars (DB9, Vantage, DBS, Rapide, Vanquish) around fluids with specific specifications.  This site is dedicated to showing you how to do routine maintenance yourself, and getting the right fluids to be part of that process is important.   As you might expect I’ve done my research into what would be the correct and best fluids for my car, and I’ve compiled each of those articles here for you in one place.   If you just want my quick recommendation you can find it here, and if you want to learn the basis for that recommendation click on the link to the full article.

Engine Oil

My recommendation for V12 engines is Mobil 1 0W-40.   You’ll need about 11 quarts, and you can get a 5 quart container for about $23 USD here.   Learn more about this recommendation and other options in the article here.

Brake Fluid

My recommendation for all cars is Motul RBF600.  You’ll need two or three 500ml bottles to do a full system flush as part of you annual serviceYou can get a 500ml bottle for about $17 USD hereLearn more about this recommendation and other options in the article here.

Engine Coolant

My recommendation is Havoline OAT Extended Life Coolant (XLC).   You’ll need about 16 quarts (4 gallons) of 50/50 mix to do a full system flush.   You can get a 1 gallon bottle of 50/50 pre-mix for about $16 USD hereLearn more about this recommendation and other options in the article here.

Automatic Transmission Fluid

If your car has the Tiptronic II 6 speed automatic transmission, my recommendation is ZF Lifeguard 6.   You’ll need about 10 liters if you are going to do your 8 year fluid flushYou can get a 1 liter bottle for $18 USD here (when purchased in a six pack)Learn more about this recommendation and other options in the article here.

Manual Transmission Fluid

If you have a manual or sport shift transmission you need the bespoke Castrol BOT 270a gear oil along with Kendall Limited Slip Differential Additive.  Aston recommends changing your fluid every 4 years.  You’ll need 4.5 liters of gear oil and two 4 oz. bottles of the LSD additive. You can get a 1 liter bottle of the gear oil for about $39 USD here.   You can get the LSD additive for about $15 USD here.

Rear Differential Fluid

Not to be confused with transmission fluid, my recommendation for the rear differential fluid depends on if you have an Automatic or Manual Transmission.

If you have an Automatic transmission, see if you can get Shell Spirax S6 AXME 75W-90 gear oil for a reasonable price either online or from your local Aston dealer.  If you can’t get that fluid, then I recommend the Castrol Syntrax Limited Slip 75W-90.  You need about 1.6 liters to change the fluid as part of your 2 year annual serviceYou can get a 1 liter bottle of this for $15 USD here (when purchased in a six pack).
